KMEC in the Community

Kip's Nelspruit Lion Lady of the Year

SA_community_work_nicci_1SA_community_work_nicci_3“Nicci van Gelder of the Nelspruit Kip McGrath Centres has been involved in community service in one way or another since 1979. She has been the Lions Lady of the year of the Nelspruit Lions Club  three times, and also of the district.  Nicci is very involved with fundraising and service projects, including a feeding scheme for 73 children, the upgrading of a township pre-school and training an entire school of special needs learners for a Speech and Drama Eisteddfod the the past 5 years.

SA_community_work_nicci_2Nicci also initiated the sewing of 200 Teddy Bears for Childline, and personally delivered Christmas Cake and Shortbread to 3 Old Age Homes.  The community of Nelspruit and many needy causes have benefitted from Nicci’s passion for service, and her ability to juggle her personal, business and community service lives.”

East London Kip Makes a Huge Difference

SA_community_work_hamperOur outreach programme at the end of every year supports the needs of an elected charity. In this way, our Centre looks outward to people who are less fortunate than ourselves!

In November 2010, we contributed food hamper articles (see photo) for the children of the Hope Preparatory School (from Grade R, 1 and 2) to take home for the December school holiday. All the children at this little school on the outskirts of East London are either affected, infected or orphaned by AIDS.

We assisted these children in a more far-reaching way, and so the vision of giving them literacy classes was born! Just before 10:00 every Tuesday morning, our Centre comes alive with the arrival of 17 very excited little people.

3 of our tutors have offered their services free of charge, and our Centre supplies the material, for these little boys and girls to reach their potential. With Carol’s dream– what an impact our programme has on the lives of these little children’s education, acceptance and unconditional love! The school relies solely on donations. What a blessing to be part of this.

Community Award for Kip McGrath Bryanston

acres_loveKip McGrath Bryanston was awarded a Service to the Community Award for the sponsorship of 2 students from the Acres of Love Orphanage, which is a house for a small group of girls in Jukskei Park, Fourways. These girls are often AIDS orphans, many of them struggling with HIV themselves. Attending Kip has assisted one of the girls in achieving entrance to a much better quality school than is typical for these girls, who are usually placed in very basic township schools. We have been working with these children for 2 years.

Service to the Community Award for Kip McGrath Kyalami

yenzaniKip McGrath Kyalami was awarded a Service to the Community Award for  the sponsorship of 12 students from the Yenzani Children’s Home in Noordwyk, Midrand. These are children who have been separated from their families throughout Africa for various reasons (death of parents, illness, poverty etc) and after much disruption are placed by the courts with Yenzani until either a willing family member is located, or the child turns 18 and becomes independent. We have been working with these children for 3 years.
